Certificate of Completion

The UO Sustainability Leadership certificate can be a valuable asset to demonstrate to prospective or current employers that you have gained the knowledge and skills required to help an organization incorporate sustainability measures. Learn more about who are the certificate recipients and what organizations they represent.

How to obtain the Certificate of Completion

To be awarded the Certificate, participants must attend a total of 65 contact hours of training (equivalent of ten one-day workshops) For example, a full-day workshop 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. has a one-hour lunch break and therefore counts as 6.5 contact hours. Participants can choose topics that best suit their educational goals.

Please explore the details about formats and fees, and the schedule and description of each workshop session.

Details

The Certificate of Completion is very flexible, formatted to accommodate the diversity of our participants' goals and locations.

  • There is no application process. You simply begin by taking a workshop and then consult with our staff to determine if a Certificate of Completion is of benefit to you.
  • There is no required sequence for taking the workshops or for completing all of the requirements. If possible, you will want to begin with the "Foundation" session, but it is not mandatory.
  • There is no time limit for completing all of the requirements. The certificate can be completed within one year. It is recommended that the certificate is completed in two years.
  • There is no exam at the end of the process.

Principles of Sustainability option

Starting Fall 2011, participants may earn the Principles of Sustainability status by attending five full-day workshops.

We recommend that you speak with the Program Coordinator about your educational goals before deciding on a course of action.

Special Arrangements

  • Participants who are unable to finish the certificate program on-site due to relocation or other circumstances, can transfer up to 20% of educational activities (maximum equivalent of 13 classroom hours) from non-UO Academic Extension programs. Such programs can include classes, conferences and other events. Prior approval must be received, events can not be accepted retroactively.
  • Teaching workshops within the program may apply for up to 20% of the requirements, with prior approval (maximum equivalent of 13 classroom hours).
