Public/Private Partnerships for Sustainability

November 20, 2009
Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
UO in Portland, White Stag Block 152
Presenter: Joshua Proudfoot

A one-day workshop addressing the challenges, patterns and solution strategies in forming public-private partnerships for improving the economy and the environment, created for managers in government and the private sector.

Course Description

This workshop will teach participants the strategies to forming successful public-private partnerships to achieve alignment with the people "over the fence."

The morning will begin with a discussion of themes and patterns in successful public-private partnerships. Agency and business innovators will share their programs to improve environmental quality, develop the community and support restorative industries. Participants will have ample time to ask hard questions about breaking out of "silos" and traditional relationships to get the desired results.

In the early afternoon, there will be frank small group discussions about managing the personal, professional and financial risk that often comes with changing the status quo. All participants will directly plan their own strategies for projects with support from the instructors and their peers.

The day will conclude with a discussion about the greatest challenge for both the public and private sector: adapting and slowing climate change.

All participants will be encouraged to share their knowledge and professional experiences to help focus the discussion on practical concerns and outcomes.
