Energy Efficiency First: A Map to Reducing Costs and Carbon Footprint

Energy Efficiency can be a key plank in your sustainability platform. Discovering how much energy your organization uses and systematically putting efficiency measures in place can save money and reveal ways to take charge of carbon emissions.

Course Description

Managing energy as a controllable expense to save money, enhance competitive advantage, and clarify its relationship to GHG emissions continues to grow in importance.

This workshop will teach participants to implement an energy management system-one beyond a project-by-project approach-to ensure their energy management programs produce measurable results.

Participants will learn how a systematic approach can guide the quality of the energy management engagement in small, medium, and large companies and organizations.

Overview

After an initial overview of management systems focused on energy, the morning and afternoon sessions will devolve into Planning and Project phases comprised of:

  • Instructor-lead overviews
  • Small group work sessions outlining and introducing foundational elements of a standard-based energy management system focused on:
    • Developing an energy management policy
    • Devising a C-suite (senior executive) communication platform
    • Creating a sample energy project that identifies tips to document and communicate energy savings.
  • Tools and resources to aid implementation of an energy management system post-workshop.

    Who Should Attend

    Individuals connected to facility or building energy use including:

    • Plant managers, building managers
    • Resource conservation managers, sustainability managers, green building specialists
    • Lean, quality, ISO 9000/14000 managers
    • Economic development staff
    • Anyone interested in an introduction to managing energy as a controllable expense Previous experience in management systems is beneficial, but is not required to attend this workshop.
