Darin Dinsmore

Sustainable Community Strategies

Darin Dinsmore is an innovative and award-winning urban planner and landscape architect. Dinsmore offers over twenty years of experience in helping cities and regions to increase their livability and prosperity, reduce their ecological footprint, and improve human and ecological health. He believes that the design of our cities, communities, and neighborhoods is central to achieving sustainability. Dinsmore, who has managed over thirty innovative projects to help move communities toward sustainability, is an expert in community-based planning and design; public private partnerships; and implementation strategies. Dinsmore has received APA awards for spearheading efforts to create the first bi-state regional sustainability framework, and master planning a high profile LEED-ND pilot project.

Dinsmore's current research and projects include serving as the planning and sustainability advisor for the Tahoe Regional Plan; creating an EcoDistrict Framework for California in partnership with leading green developers, builders and state agencies; and creating a 4-step adaptive management approach to assist communities in moving to the next level of sustainability. He has conducted training seminars for ULI on best practices in sustainability by city design.

Dinsmore is a principal of Sustainable Community Strategies, a consulting firm that helps communities and regions address climate change and new state and federal policies. The firm helps transform cities into high quality, sustainable urban environments by assisting their clients in making smart infrastructure investments with global impact. They have offices in California and Vancouver, British Columbia. Dinsmore and his associates encourage communities to Think Globally, Plan Regionally, and Act Locally.
