Dennis Wilde

Principal
Gerding Edlen

Central to Dennis Wilde's philosophy is environmental responsibility and smart design. He first realized the possibilities of sustainability from a business perspective while attending a workshop on The Natural Step in 1997, the same year he joined Gerding Edlen, a company Wilde was drawn to because of ethical standards articulated and employed in their dealings.

As Gerding Edlen's designated "green guy," Wilde has encouraged increased environmental stewardship in development projects while building a strong business case for the economic and social benefits of environmental responsibility. Wilde's responsibilities include launching of Gerding Edlen Sustainable Solutions (GESS), committed to engaging strategies where building projects generate more energy than they consume and consume more waste than they produce. GESS is also working on several district-scale distributed energy and waste management systems.

Wilde is an active board member of The Natural Step Network, the Cascadia Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, the Oregon Built Environment & Sustainable Technologies Center (Oregon BEST), and Caldera, an arts and environment education program for at-risk youth.

Wilde has more than twenty years of experience in urban planning and design, and has been active in construction and real estate development since 1967. He earned a degree in architectural engineering from Washington State University, as well as a master's degrees in architecture and urban planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
